The work Time-lapse Map I represents the beginning of the author’s thematic line focused on exploring time as a changeable, layered, and elusive phenomenon. Roman Ďurček opens a visual dialogue with time not through a story, but through the very process of creating an image in which the material becomes a carrier of memory.
Time-lapse Map I forms the basic principles of the author’s approach: experimenting with pigments, chemical reactions, oxidation, and alternative substrates. The surface of the work bears the initial traces of transformation, records of slow processes and spontaneous interventions that resemble geological layers or fragments of human memory.
The map here does not serve to orientate oneself in space, but to find orientation in time (both personal and universal). The abstract structure of the image creates a field for introspection, where individual layers become traces of survival, development, and constant transformation. The work thus functions as a visual imprint of time in its initial, formative stage.
