According to Ancient Greek Philosopher Plato, the human soul consists of three parts; the intellect, the emotion, and the desire. In the work, all three of them (the naked male body – intellect, the abstracted turquoise face – emotion, the red rose – desire) are facing upwards, looking up in the skies, longing to discover the divine and connect with it. They are depicted separately, but all three of them are interconnected by the intricate pattern symbolising the soul as a whole.
Konstantinos Papaioannou is a visual artist and poet who creates captivating works with themes of Greek mythology, exploring the nature of the psyche through concepts of immortality, duality, and timelessness. Throughout his artistic practice, he has developed his own distinctive style—a complex, hand-drawn, decorative pattern that appears in every one of his paintings.
