I was born in 1958 in Rožňava. Even as a young boy, I dreamed of becoming a painter. I drew a lot, sent my drawings to exhibitions, and in the 1970s, I won an international competition in Berlin. This decision led me to study at the Secondary School of Fine Arts in Košice.
Not everything in life is as simple as the dreams of unburdened childhood eyes. I never reconciled with the normalized Czechoslovak regime, which the totalitarian regime did not forgive. I paid for it with my academic ambitions. In 1977, I graduated from the Secondary School of Applied Arts in Košice, specializing in ceramics, but other doors were already closed to me. Our collective painting exhibition in Košice also contributed to this, which our “authorities” did not accept and deemed as anti-state.
However, visual art still lived inside me and continuously made itself known through ceramics, which I pursued relentlessly for nearly 30 years, while also painting alongside it.
My work is mostly focused on landscapes, but also figures and portraits. I try to paint the contours of my authentic story onto the canvas, which is why different periods of my work are so diverse in thematic breadth and visual expression. Sometimes my paintings are characterized by a dynamic compositional vortex, while at other times, the rhythm calms, and a delicate balance prevails.
Painting is unrestrained sensuality!
