Pavel Janouškovec

Pavel Janouškkovec received his art education in the studio of the painter and sculptor Jaroslav Šindelář and subsequently Jiří Patera, under whose influence he also found the basic theme of his work – the landscape, which he transforms into a more or less abstracted artistic composition, whose colored areas and symbolic motifs, regardless of the constructively stylized form, evoke space, elements and the atmosphere of the country.

Janouškovec’s “compositions”, especially in the first half of the 1980s, really belonged to the most original and high-quality visual expressions in the Pilsen artistic environment. Later, Janouškov’s work was transformed, and the constructive basis of his morphology (however always presented with a certain expressiveness) was replaced by a freer organic concept of composition and forms. Nevertheless, it is still a type of “modern landscape” that interests him, coupled with the aesthetic effect of the industrial elements present here. Janouškovec is based on the human perception of one’s own movement in space; this is then a starting point that can be further transformed into an imaginary “inner landscape”.

His works have been presented at more than 40 separate exhibitions around the world (Czech Republic, USA, Belgium, Germany, Holland and others), they have also won several international awards, such as the 2nd prize at the 4th International Watercolor Biennale CASTRA 2021 in Slovenia, 3. prize at the International Exhibition in Indonesia, 2nd prize at the large international exhibition “4th IWS INDONESIA EXHIBITION 2022” at the Indonesian National Gallery in Jakarta and a special prize in 2023 at the Art Vue Foundation’s Prize Winter 2023 exhibition in Brussels.
