Andrea Zvadova

Andrea Zvadova is a freelance photographer born in Slovakia and currently living in London. Her photography focuses on beauty, portraiture, and still life.

Andrea has an extraordinary sense of detail and balance in her photography. Her detailed studies of human features transform skin and hair into abstract landscapes and imaginary worlds. Her work combines great sensitivity and minimalism. She celebrates unusual beauty, diversity, and uniqueness in contrast to standard notions of beauty.

Andrea has received several awards and gained attention in many photography competitions.

She is a winner of the Portrait of Britain awards in 2017 and 2018, received first place in the “Body” category at the Photography Grant 2018, was a finalist for the Royal Photographic Society award in 2017, and also took first place in the fine art category of PDN LOOK in 2017. In April 2019, Andrea was one of the exhibiting artists at the “Month of Photography Los Angeles.” In 2021, she was chosen by Hasselblad as part of their “Hasselblad Heroines.”

Andrea works with both digital and analog photography, including old alternative photographic techniques. For her studio work, she primarily uses medium format cameras.

Her goal is to create images that encourage viewers to pause, explore, dissect, and analyze. This reflects what is real, how we perceive the world before us, and how we see ourselves. It allows the viewer to ponder parallel narratives and possibilities, distorted thoughts that could be changed, skewed self-esteem, and a full spectrum of emotions that are mostly private and intimate.

Andrea creates images with practical effects using physics and optics. She uses fast shutter speeds to freeze the image and experiments with various colored materials. The entire series is created in the studio with studio lights.
