Dorotka was born in Dolný Kubín, Slovakia in 1997, but to this day considers the area around the Tatras her home, where she loves spending time at a cottage surrounded by forest and birdsong. She studied at the School of Applied Arts in Ružomberok and later pursued fashion design in Copenhagen. After seven years in Copenhagen, she exchanged this cold country, in every sense of the word, for sunny Málaga, where she has now lived for three years.
Her photographs have been published in both the print and digital editions of Vogue Scandinavia and British Vogue. For Vogue Scandinavia, she worked on a shoot with a local yoga studio in Copenhagen, while her work for British Vogue involved a product shoot for a Danish company specialising in organic skincare.
She began painting more intensively just under three years ago. She was particularly drawn to the technique of gouache, and soon found herself going to sleep looking forward to the morning so she could paint again. About a year ago, she began working with oils, which have since become her primary medium and are also better suited to larger formats than gouache.
Dorotka has had a close relationship with nature since childhood, so painting landscapes and natural motifs came naturally to her. Sometimes these are imagined places; at other times, places she would like to visit one day. She works with soft, muted tones and aims to capture through her paintings the sense of calm she feels when surrounded by nature. She is often inspired by quiet moments during or just after sunset, when the surrounding light transforms the landscape into something almost magical.
