Pavol Kajan (1976, Dolný Kubín, Slovakia) originally studied music composition at the Academy of Performing Arts in Bratislava,Slovakia where he received a bachelor’s degree. He completed his master’s degree in Sound Design in 2012 at the National Film and Television School in Beaconsfield, Great Britain. It was during this period that he discovered his passion for visual expression and creative photography. For the next seven years, he devoted himself to exploring visual art through experimentation in various techniques. Thanks to the nomination for the Royal Art Prize 2019 in London, he got the opportunity to exhibit his works, which found their place in private collections in Great Britain. Pavol Kajan returned to his homeland, Slovakia, lives and creates in Dolný Kubín. He continues his long-term project of exploring archetypal reflections of many faces of humanity and psyche through staged photography.
My artwork is about archetypal reflections of many faces of humanity and of the psyche. It is the application of the diffuse and specular reflection of light through which I express myself as an artist. I work solely on my own, using real people as my models and my images are created optically (in camera) on the production set which I design and illuminate.
These images are as real as the objects they are reflecting. They are photographed with full frame DSLR or medium format film stills camera. There is no computer-generated imagery or AI. When I look at these images I am opening the door to the space where I can reconnect with myself and receive inner peace …
And this I wish to all the viewers.
