Oľga Dzúrová

Oľga Dzúrová was born in Rožňava, Slovakia. She now lives and works in Liptovský Mikuláš, Slovakia.

What does she say about herself?

“My passion is soft, pleasant, and warm materials. Vibrant colors, colorful trinkets, ribbons, waves, threads, and scraps of fabric. They delight me, entertain me, and inspire me. I work with wool and silk, collect colorful pieces of fabric, and happily combine and create with all of it.

I not only create unconventional fashion accessories myself but also help those who have embarked on the creative journey or are preparing to do so. I offer advice on felting, silk painting, and color selection. I assist in choosing materials for creating.”

She studied restoration at the Secondary School of Applied Arts in Košice and later studied teaching, focusing on art education and pedagogy, at P. J. Šafárik University in Prešov.

She engages in various textile techniques. In her artistic journey, she has explored bobbin lace, silk painting, and felting, which is her current focus. During her time in secondary and higher education, she dedicated herself to bobbin lace. Her laceworks have been exhibited in Pittsboro, USA, and in group exhibitions at the Gallery in Starý Smokovec and in Putnok, Hungary. She also participated in competitions in Alicante, Spain, with her bobbin lace creations. Her piece “Alicante” won 2nd place, and one of her lace artworks became part of the mayor’s office in Alicante.

Later, she became interested in other textile techniques such as art patchwork, felting, and silk painting. Her art quilt titled Windows was showcased at the Prague Patchwork Meeting exhibition. Currently, her primary focus is felting and working with wool. She combines traditional methods with new approaches, enthusiastically blending different textile materials and techniques.

She has fallen in love with creating textile tapestries using the Arttex technique. In her artworks, she merges and combines dry and wet felting, complemented by hand and machine embroidery, as well as eco-printing.
